Summary part.1
The book Les Miserable starts off with describing Charles M. Myriel who went on a trip to Paris. when he returned as a priest. after he went to the Cardinal French on behalf o his parishioners. one day the emperor had come for a visit and met M. Myriel . sometime afterwards M. Myriel was overwhelmed with surprise that he was appointed Bishop of Digne. Then M. Myriel arrived to Digne he was accompanied by an old women, madmosielle Baptestine who was his sister. their only domestic was a women named Madame Malgiore who was a servant now had to take a double tittle of femme de chamber of Mademoiselle and housekeeper of monseigneur. after the installation was completed the town was curious to meet their new bishop at work. Days after his arrival the bishop had visited the hospital. the bishop received 15,000 Frances and he gave 10 percent to the poor and kept the 90 percent in a budget.
the bishop would leave his doors unlocked and both Mademoiselle and Madam Baptistine were worried someone would enter, by talking to the bishop he told them they could lock their chambers but the door stays unlocked. The bishop would only eat in silver. there was a destruction of a band of Gaspard Bes who lived in the mountain. he concealed himself for sometime with bandits and have been appearing and disappearing in various places for various robberies. one night they had broke into the cathedral and striped the sacristy. the bishop then decided to go and try to ta to the bandits. the bishop then went on a journey and when he arrives he talks to the bandits and prayers. when he bishop returned from the place the town was waiting to see if he did return. everyone was shook and relieved he returned; the treasure was returned that day.
the bishop performed an act, which the town thought was far more dangerous than his excursion across the mountain infested with bandits. There was a man named G--, who lived near the country of Digne, who was a member of the national convention. there was word out that he was dying. the bishop gazed upon the horizontal at the spot where there were trees by a ravine and decided to pay the man a visit. the town was worried and the mayor tried convincing him it was dangerous but the bishop said nothing would stop him. He then got to the mans house and entered into his house. they then had a talk about what the man did before and what they thought was wrong. they had argued about belief after death or what they thought, in the end the bishop decided not to continue and just listen to what the man thought. before the mans last breath he asked for the reason he got thte bishop to visit him. then the bishop said he wanted to ask for his blessing and fell on his kness but when he looked up the man had took his last breath. the bishp went home and the whole night he was in prayer.
